[12:07] Kika Yongho: Hello Photographers, old and new faces, and welcome all to our pre-Easter episode, #33. We thank you for being here, in the beautiful setup that our amazing dearest Violette has finished building for the joy of our eyes!

[12:08] Kika Yongho: The new venue has been completed: you will notice new details and add-ons! We recommend you to take your time to visit it all deeply and attentively because it includes some hidden gems, its not enough to cam around! You literally have to put your foot into it because you might be teleported somewhere incredible as you do! But we will talk again about it..

[12:08] Kika Yongho: Now! For today’s topic I would like to introduce to you Terrygold, an Italian talented SL photographer friend and gallery owner. You can admire the current ongoing work at her gallery: “Rain”, “Freedom of a flower”, “PM10 fine dust”, all at: T.A.G. – Terrygold Art Gallery

[12:09] Kika Yongho: And a beautiful summer installation called “El Cenote” (you can google for the meaning of it, or take a peek at terrygold ‘s profile!), that you can visit here: Solodonna Club “El Cenote”.

[12:09] Kika Yongho: Amongst her other great ideas, she had a new one: to create a group for promotion of… “Art & Co.”!

What is this group for? Let’s hear it from the group Staff itself:

The group volunteers or “Experts” can post in the group all the news related to Arts, Photography (AHA!), Photogenic sim, and everything related! So.. Do you want to write/communicate to others about that great new sim just opened or that wonderful expo there.. Or would you like to read and be informed about all of this?

[12:13] Kika Yongho: And as we are already with our mind at party and dance.. Duraya will you start the talk about movement in photography please, Thank you!

[12:13] Duraya: Yes! Let’s turn to today’s topic, capturing motion‘!
[12:13] Duraya: I hope we will get lots of examples from your side and explanations on how you capture motion in sl.

[12:14] Duraya: We think it is rather different from how you do it RL.
[12:14] Duraya: I am not an expert on this and if anyone of you feels like saying a few words on the way you get good motion in pictures RL you are very welcome of course.

[12:15] Duraya: But in the end in both worlds you just get a static picture as a result of all your efforts! Where does the motion come from then?

[12:15] Duraya: It’s basically a result of how we humans perceive our world. We see hints and our brain compares these to our former experiences. In short we create what we see!
[12:15] Duraya: We constantly do. We are experts.

[12:16] Duraya: Let me show you some RL examples I found first! We can find out together what makes our brain create motion.

[12:16] Duraya: Please remember to type c for comment, q for question and r for retrieve in open chat and wait for me to call you to post your answer!

[12:17] Duraya: We have these people, obviously moving, but how do you get they ARE moving?

[12:18] ღ Babe ღ (babe.whimsy): c

[12:18] Duraya: what hints does our brain get?
[12:18] Duraya: yes Babe 🙂

[12:19] ღ Babe ღ (babe.whimsy): Sometimes you get movement impression because of the position the person or animal is in. Like would be impossible to hold a mid-air position for example

[12:19] Duraya: true – our brain just adds what comes next like in jumps or falling 🙂

[12:20] Duraya: anything else that indicates the movement?
[12:21] Duraya: okay, let’s see the next one

[12:21] Kika Yongho: c

[12:21] Duraya: Next is this city shot, where does the movement come from here?
[12:21] Duraya: yes Kika

[12:22] Kika Yongho: The effect of the motion is given by the panning effect. Done

[12:22] DaneAlbion: c

[12:23] ღ Babe ღ (babe.whimsy): c

[12:23] Duraya nods – when something passes us it gets more blurry than the things that stay in place, it’s just a slight effect and photography uses it for indicating motion

[12:23] Duraya: Dane please

[12:24] DaneAlbion: i think thats actually been achieved by using a slow shutter. Done

[12:24] Duraya: thank you Dane

[12:24] Duraya: and Bebe has a comment too 🙂

[12:24] ღ Babe ღ (babe.whimsy): Long exposure? done

[12:25] Duraya: probably

[12:25] Duraya: And a racing doggy, an other way to capture motion. What is it here?

[12:26] DaneAlbion: c

[12:26] Duraya: yes Dane

[12:26] DaneAlbion: i think thats been taken by panning. done

[12:28] Duraya: what is significant is – whether you blur the moving object or the background gives our brain the same information ‘something is moving

[12:28] Duraya: And one more, which uses a completely different technique.

[12:28] ღ Babe ღ (babe.whimsy): c

[12:29] Duraya: yes Babe 🙂

[12:29] ღ Babe ღ (babe.whimsy): time lapse ..done

[12:29] Duraya smiles, short and precise, thank you Babe

[12:30] Duraya: so we mentioned poses – like walking, hanging in mid-air and so on and hints of movement, our brain creates what we intended to capture and this can be translated into SL photography.

[12:33] Duraya: okay – as I said, what we mentioned can be used to capture motion in SL

[12:33] Duraya: this is the moment when everyone comes forward with the examples they brought for us to see and discuss!!!

[12:35] Kika Yongho: c

[12:35] Duraya: yes Kika please

[12:36] Kika Yongho: I can start to give an example. done

[12:37] Duraya: a great photo, could you please explain what you were up to Kika and how you were doing it?

[12:38] Kika Yongho: Yes the photo is called “I paint what I see” and it wants to mix the idea of movement with the one of paint

[12:38] Kika Yongho: The movement of the whole photo was given with PS effects towards the heart in the glass. Done

[12:40] ღ Babe ღ (babe.whimsy): Its just a pic of me, shall I speak about it?

[12:41] Duraya: I would love to hear something about it, we all would

[12:42] ღ Babe ღ (babe.whimsy): I very rarely use poses. Almost all my pics are taken during actual movement,. This is from a flying Pixie AO I have. Done

[12:44] Duraya: thank you, yes, it’s a pose you wouldn’t be able to hold, you would inevitably fall down so we understand you are moving

[12:44] Kika Yongho: c

[12:44] Duraya: I love how the color of the AV matches the writing in the background
[12:44] Duraya: yes Kika

[12:45] Kika Yongho: It reminds me of the still motion of the guys on the snowboard! Done

[12:45] Duraya: thank you Kika

[12:45] Duraya: Where is the next example?

[12:46] DaneAlbion: c

[12:46] Duraya: Dane please

[12:47] DaneAlbion: I wasn’t sure how to go about this, motion doesn’t seem like something that is easy to capture in an SL photograph.

[12:48] DaneAlbion: I thought i would experiment with the motion blur tools in GIMP. I was trying to emulate what would happen in RL if a fairly fast shutter speed was used and the camera was panned with the subject, though i don’t think this came out too well

[12:48] DaneAlbion: I think i need to spend more time truly understanding which parts of a scene like this would blur and also the subject matter was tricky to edit. Horses legs and sand are not easy to digitally manipulate. Done

[12:48] Duraya: it came out very well Dane

12:49] Duraya: yes once

[12:49] Moki Yuitza: c

[12:49] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): I think it’s almost perfect, the angle and the motion.. what I can suggest to you Dane is to pay more attention to the sky..

[12:50] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): with a more realistic colour and light it would be perfect! Done

[12:50] Duraya: Thanks for your comment once, Babe you wanted to comment too?

[12:51] ღ Babe ღ (babe.whimsy): yes just to say I think it’s pretty realistic capture. Done

[12:51] Duraya: thank you and Moki is next

[12:51] Moki Yuitza: i agree with once about the angle… the cut of the image and the blur on the legs emphasize the sense of movement, love that image

[12:51] Moki Yuitza: done

[12:51] DaneAlbion: thank you for all the feedback

[12:53] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): it has been a funny task

[12:54] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): I’ve built a simple place and used an animation and then waited for the perfect time to shoot
[12:54] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): and after I created two layers in photoshop and I move one

[12:55] Duraya: so you used an animation, not a pose

[12:55] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): yes, most of the time, like Babe, I prefer the animations

[12:55] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): the problem is that you waste time for the perfect moment

[12:55] ღ Babe ღ (babe.whimsy): c

[12:56] Duraya: no waste if you get a good shot

[12:56] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): but the results between a pose and animation are really different

[12:56] Duraya: I can see that, never tried but will for sure, thank you once

[12:58] Duraya: I have Moki on my list and Babe

[12:58] Moki Yuitza: the image has more or less the same characteristics as the Dane image, pose, capture angle, crop, perspective and blur, all to emphasize (this time I spell it correctly) the feeling of movement the final result is obviously different, but I see the same search for these elements. Done

[13:02] Squeeeze: Just a gentle movement

[13:02] Duraya: I can feel the breeze, beautiful

[13:02] Squeeeze: making photos in sl with some motion is easier when your hair is windy, or your dress has some moment in it so it was easy photo. Done

[13:03] Duraya: thanks for sharing

[13:04] Squeeeze: it is Tableau Vivant

[13:05] terrygold : very nice

[13:05] Duraya: they have great hair for photography

[13:05] terrygold : I’m always bald in my photos, naked

[13:05] Duraya: I hope you can still stay a bit for Terry’s

[13:06] terrygold: I made narrower and longer

[13:07] Moki Yuitza: c

[13:08] Moki Yuitza: in this case, it is the pose to give the sense of movement, a slow and gentle movement, something fluctuating and suspended in time. Done

[13:08] Duraya: yes, like there was less gravitiy

[13:08] Moki Yuitza: yes

[13:08] Duraya: and onceagain please

[13:10] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): I echo what Moki said, its like a falling leaf. Done
