"Winter Prop Photo Challenge!"
[ The following Episode #67 will be on the
1st of December ! ]
[12:10] Kika Yongho: Hello Photographers friends!
Welcome everyone to this bi-weekly appointment together, that is our episode #66! I hope at least some of you have been doing the homeworks assigned 2 weeks ago, during the last episode! grins But first.. I have to talk to you about the news of the day! Ready? I go!
[12:11] Kika Yongho: For those who were here during our last episode, we had planned a “double interview” with Belice and Nieu, the owners of Noir’Wen City of arts sim. Other than having an amazing contest ongoing, they are now hosting a “Photo Cafe’ HUB” in Noir’Wen City!
[12:11] Kika Yongho: “What is it?” you might be asking yourself… Well, simple: it is our info HUB point PLUS an expo building, where our artists of the quarter who have a “Recycled Expo” on display at Photo Cafe’ will have the chance to fully display it in a larger area and for more views! YAY!
[12:12] Kika Yongho: Speak of our next Recycled Expo, after our wonderful current “Retrospective” by v ɪ ᴄ (Victoria Worbridge) – that you can still admire here on the sim for almost a couple of weeks more! – we are gonna have our next artist to re-display a past work. Are you curious to know who is the next protagonist? Should I say who? …
[12:13] Kika Yongho: The double treat is.. That we will have also a party on Sunday the 8th of December at Photo Cafe’ Expo build @ Noir’Wen City! We are gonna start at 11:00AM with a live performance of the super prestigious SL/RL singer Shamrock! And, to follow, a DJ set from 12:00PM SLT, all seasoned with the classy hosting of Creamy Teardrop!
[12:13] Kika Yongho: So.. What can we find at our brand new Photo Cafe’ @ Noir’Wen Info HUB? The best way to find out is.. To go there and check it after the episode! But I will spoil some useful info, for you next visit to our new HUB site! The very first one is… the location:
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Venture%20Isle/224/236/21
12:14] Kika Yongho: When you land at Noir’Wen City landing point, to find all the Art related destinations, the easiest way is to locate the easel with the Art Logo and click it! The easel at the landing point looks like this:
and will present you a menu with all the available locations in Noir’Wen City sim, where you can find: “Photo Cafe” and “Photo Gallery”.
[12:16] Kika Yongho: So, to close my intro…
[12:16] Kika Yongho: Please take the chance to explore the Info HUB (which is a 3 levels building, with a beautiful cozy terrace for those who make it to the top!) and get ready for the upcoming expo at the Photo Gallery! Woot woot! But now.. is time.. for our episode #66! And I will let our Super Host Josephine get it started right now! I am roger and out! (done)
[12:16] Josephine Delvalle: Dear photographers and artists, welcome to a new round of our biweekly discussions.
[12:16] Josephine Delvalle: This time we have announced a slightly different challenge. We asked you to take a photo using a given item.
[12:17] Josephine Delvalle: At first here a big thank you to Moki, who built it for us.
[12:17] Josephine Delvalle: Before we see Moki’s photo and within, what Moki imagination/idea of a photo has been behind that snowflakes, I would like to let us see your interpretations.
[12:18] Josephine Delvalle: As one of the photographers is here (eyes at Sio) I would like to show his photo and ask him:
[12:18] Josephine Delvalle: a) What feeling, did you wish to express and why have you chosen the used other elements (landscape, …)
[12:18] Josephine Delvalle: b) what was the main challenge by doing a photo with the given prop?
[12:19] Sio Skytower: Do you want me to share the pic I made?
[12:19] Josephine Delvalle: Yes, please Sio
[12:20] Josephine Delvalle: Than it is your turn to ask the photographer and to tell, if you feel the same as the photographer did by doing his photo.
[12:21] Josephine Delvalle: ok, lets go, Sio the stage is yours, tell us about your photo
[12:21] Sio Skytower: I was thinking inside the snow globe when I first got the prop, and was thinking of that and how it is in winter when laying on the snow, looking UP at snowfall at night, it’s like being in a snowglobe….but that doesn’t work too well for a photo so I started switching perspective to be ‘above’
[12:22] Sio Skytower: So my feeling was being in a snow globe type feeling, looking down at the animation and seeing how it swirls around and all around me and Tera.
[12:23] Sio Skytower: She built this set, and we thought it fit the season nicely and had a warm closeness while in a chilly setting, so the challenge to me was lighting, I think I spent an hour looking at environments and some individual lights to get this, but it came out the way I envisioned, a bit icy and blue.
[12:24] Sio Skytower: Oddly enough it was in firestorm, I found the lighting in black dragon never got to where I hoped. Done
[12:24] Josephine Delvalle: Questions or/and comments to Sio?
[12:25] Kika Yongho: c
[12:25] Sio Skytower: loved the challenges btw
[12:25] A. (ava.darkheart): q
[12:25] Josephine Delvalle: Kika please
[12:26] Kika Yongho: I liked much the perspective that was used, and the snowglobe paragon gives it a purpose. Well done! (and done too)
[12:26] Josephine Delvalle: Ava, your turn
[12:27] A. (ava.darkheart): Original angle and perspective as said Kika… I was curious about what you said with Blackdragon, what is the problem exactly, can you say a bit more? Done
[12:29] Sio Skytower: I usually take unedited pictures in BlackDragon Viewer, my first dozen pics were all in that viewer, and I was a little frustrated, the environments were flat to me, then I went to Firestorm and it seemed to be much better right away, normally, BlackDragon is my ‘go to’ viewer for pictures. I have dozens of settings but none were making me happy with the pic
[12:29] A. (ava.darkheart): i got it, thanks Sio for sharing 🙂
[12:29] Igi (igielka): c
[12:30] Josephine Delvalle: yes, Igi
[12:30] Igi (igielka): I think viewer is not the main thing for making a picture, its the settings, Windlights, Depth of Field etc. Done
[12:31] Josephine Delvalle: So, you are using your normal viewer, Igi as Firestorm?
[12:31] Igi (igielka): Yes, I use even old FS before PBR
[12:31] Josephine Delvalle: Shall we go on with Igi’s photo? Guess that would fit now,
[12:35] Josephine Delvalle: and to you, Igi, the same questions:
[12:35] Josephine Delvalle: a) What feeling, did you wish to express and why have you chosen the other elements?
b) what was the main challenge by doing a photo with the given prop?
[12:36] Igi (igielka): Well.that is winter, for me winter is shining white, pure..that’s what I tried bring into the images. We can fall in this white around us. Done
[12:39] Josephine Delvalle: what was the main challenge by doing a photo with the given prop?
[12:39] Igi (igielka): I think particle, like try catch it look natural
[12:40] Igi (igielka): When they move you need to be patient to try and catch them in the best position.
[12:41] Josephine Delvalle: How many photos did you take to catch the right look?
[12:42] Igi (igielka): Honestly not many, I just make fast catch, for the final image I probably could have done many more. I was mostly trying to make the snowflakes not look flat
[12:42] Josephine Delvalle: Anyone a question or a comment to Igi?
[12:45] Kika Yongho: c
[12:45] Josephine Delvalle: The winter white you got absolutely, Igi, Kika, please
[12:45] Igi (igielka): Thank you Josephine
[12:45] Kika Yongho: The white winter concept has been captured really well!
[12:46] Josephine Delvalle: Ok, and now, the creator of the snowflakes herself
[12:47] Josephine Delvalle: Let us see the idea behind the snowflakes Moki
[12:48] Josephine Delvalle: in front of the snowflakes
[12:48] Igi (igielka): c
[12:48] Moki Yuitza: well… actually i had no idea at first
[12:48] Josephine Delvalle: Please tell us about your photo
[12:49] Moki Yuitza: uhm… for me, winter is mostly cold… silence and cold, so I thought to the winter nights, with clear sky and stars… have you ever noticed that stars are brighter during winter’s nights? My idea was to capture the birth of a fae during a winter night… the magic of the stars and the silence. i tried to use the snowy particles like little stars.
[12:51] Moki Yuitza: when Kika asked me to build a prop, i was totally lost…i wanted to build something wearable and the only thing i could think of was… snow
[12:51] Moki Yuitza: for me the major difficulty is always to have a theme, not the prop itself. I was comfortable with this specific prop because I built it, so I knew exactly how it worked… the lights and the movements, so… maybe that’s why I dared to try a shot.
[12:52] Moki Yuitza: not more to say, i think…Done
[12:52] Josephine Delvalle: thank you Moki
[12:53] Josephine Delvalle: any questions or comments to Moki?
[12:53] Igi (igielka): C
[12:53] A. (ava.darkheart): q
[12:53] Josephine Delvalle: Igi, please
[12:53] Igi (igielka): To Moki, can you see you make something and see how different people show it is amazing right ?
[12:54] Igi (igielka): you made and people use it in their own way right ? Not always in the way you think, something new. Done
[12:54] Moki Yuitza: definitely amazing, yes!
[12:54] ᴍʌᴛᴛ (matthsuogan): c
[12:55] Josephine Delvalle: exactly, that was, why I set Moki’s photo at 3rd place to be shown after yours and, we go with Ava, please
[12:56] A. (ava.darkheart): I’m very thrilled by this one, and as you said Moki, can really feel the “birth of fae” in it… mostly this feeling comes from the b&w background and the colors on the avatar. Can you enlighten us and say what was the process to have such nice colors there? Done
[12:57] Moki Yuitza: well… i used a black sphere as background, and the phototools: No Light as environment, in this way, i could enhance the lights of the prop itself
[12:58] Moki Yuitza: it was built with three changing lights that were rotating and projecting a rainbow sequence of colors, that’s why you can see so many colors.
[12:58] Josephine Delvalle: Thank you Moki and Matt, your turn
[13:00] ᴍʌᴛᴛ (matthsuogan): The way the snowflake reflects the colors from the avatar is so creative and it adds a magical touch. beautiful done
[13:01] Josephine Delvalle: we are over time but do we have any others, just to do a little short time winter gallery?
[13:03] Josephine Delvalle: And what is more fun for you all? Just a theme (like winter) or a theme PLUS an item to be used in a photo?
[13:04] Igi (igielka): c
[13:04] Josephine Delvalle: Igi, please
[13:05] Igi (igielka): haha. I really love see so different images of the same prop
[13:05] Moki Yuitza: c
[13:05] Kika Yongho: I just wanted to add that Onceagain could not be here but she sent a photo (next to Igi’s)
[13:05] Josephine Delvalle: yes, that is great and fun and … I like it too
[13:07] Moki Yuitza: fun thing, it seems that no one (like me) have thought to rez the prop instead of wear it…
[13:08] Kika Yongho: Interesting.. Maybe Dane rezzed it?
[13:08] Kika Yongho: I didn’t rez it cause I had no rez rights in the winter sim I went to ice skate 😀
[13:09] Kika Yongho: (just snowflakes moving was not enough for me :P)
[13:09] Moki Yuitza: that’s the reason i made it wearable, but it is interesting that anyone tried it,
[13:09] DaneAlbion: i rezzed it
[13:09] Josephine Delvalle: Thank you to all, showing their photos.
[13:10] Josephine Delvalle: We would like to see you all again at 1st Dec with snow, cookies and mulled wine (start at 10:30AM with DJ Frank Atisso’s party for the new Recycled Expo opening)
