"Let's Get Technical!"
H.12:00 PM SLT
[The following Episode #59 will be on:
1st of June 2024]
[12:02:23] Kika Yongho: Hello Photographers!
What a start for this episode! Are you winding down and comfy seated to start this new ** SPECIAL ** episode #58? Let’s go!
[12:02:51] Kika Yongho: Sooo, after the beautiful set of DJ Bee (Filipa Emor) who played 1H30 of tunes for us, to properly (re)open our new “recycled expo”, I am gonna tell you more about this exhibit. As you know, we re-propose a previous expo from a new artist every 3 month here on the land, and this time it’s… “Baptism of Fire” by Mihailsk, whom we hearty thank too!
[12:03:50] Kika Yongho: Are you curious to know more about it? You can either click on the easel with the expo info at the start of the expo path, on the beach, either perk your ears cause I am gonna tell you some now!
[12:04:17] mihailsk Resident: Its a honor, Kika, to have the chance to exhibit here. And thank you for the invitation
[12:04:32] Kika Yongho: Thank you Mihailsk! 🙂
[12:05:11] Kika Yongho: We read on the intro note, by Mihailsk: “This exhibition originally displayed at Nitroglobus Roof Gallery in July 2021 and it was my ever first one.
I tried to express thoughts and emotions, using only my body and the presence or absence of light.
Without colors, mostly without unnecessary objects, the more I traveled the more discoveries I made.”
[12:06:02] Kika Yongho: And more: “I never imagined how exciting, painful and liberating this journey could be… Felt like dip in the deep waters.
Moments from this trip is the content of my first exhibition.”
Really a great journey, and we are really happy for you all to have a chance to admire the works one more time here!
[12:07:11] Kika Yongho: But.. Who is Mihailsk? He will tell you himself, in the note: “My name is Mihailsk and I am a passenger with open eyes in this journey of life and second life…
I’ve been in SL since 2014 and although I have always been fascinated by photography there (as in RL), I had not dealt with it systematically, spending my time in this virtual world in mundane activities.
In 2020 I started a beautiful journey to fantastic places and loved persons, trying to capture special moments in eternity. Sometimes with a smile, sometimes with pain.”
[12:08:40] Kika Yongho: He also says: “I never considered myself as an artist.
I love light but also darkness.
I am fascinated by shadows and their secrets.
I feel awe in front of the beauty of a landscape.”
[12:09:38] Kika Yongho: And.. “I love open spaces.
I am enchanted by the beauty of a soul as its reflected in the eyes of a person.
We are a part of the environment around us, not the main theme.”

[12:10:26] Kika Yongho: While you bookmark Mihailsk’s Flickr, without any further delay, I will hand the virtual mic to our wonderful host Josephine, who is gonna start the episode #58, titled: “Let’s Get Technical!”. Are you ready? Cause I am roger and out! Go Josephine!!!
[12:10:56] Josephine Delvalle: eeekkkkkkkksss…. dont say ‘go’ or I will crash again …
[12:11:00] Kika Yongho: hahaha
[12:11:02] Josephine Delvalle: Fastens her seatbelt
[12:11:03] Kika Yongho: go but stay 🙂
[12:11:14] Josephine Delvalle: Dear photographers and artists, welcome to a new round of our biweekly discussions.
[12:11:27] Josephine Delvalle: Today we don’t want to talk about creativity, design elements, composition. storytelling. Today it’s not about art, today it’s about…craft.
[12:11:48] Josephine Delvalle: Yes, visual design/photography is not just art, it also has a certain amount of ‘craft’.
[12:12:07] Josephine Delvalle: What are the technical difficulties that you sometimes/often/always stumble upon?
[12:12:30] Josephine Delvalle: Have you composed the perfect image, but the SL photo-click produces a photo that looks different than what you see on the screen in front of you?
[12:12:49] Josephine Delvalle: Do you want to edit your photo but don’t have the right software or do you have the software but can’t find the right way?
[12:13:04] Josephine Delvalle: Etc. etc. etc.
[12:13:31] Josephine Delvalle: So our discussion today will be less of a discussion than a question – answer, problem – solution hour.
[12:13:58] Josephine Delvalle: That’s why, after someone has described their technical problem, before I call up the next one from discussion tracker list, I always ask you to let me know if someone has a solution or a hint on how to solve it.
[12:14:25] Josephine Delvalle: Please write me an ‘S’ for solution in the chat.
[12:14:45] Josephine Delvalle: Thats addditional today to ours usual discussion rules
[12:15:01] Josephine Delvalle: I hope we can fill both columns of the list today: the technical issue column and the solution column.
[12:15:14] Discussion Tracker 3.6: Today’s discussion will be run in the C&Q format.
Please type a c in local chat if you have a comment.

[12:15:37] Josephine Delvalle: And pls… Done for Done to let me know, we can go on
[12:15:48] Josephine Delvalle: Ok, there we go … what’s first technical issue …
[12:16:52] Kika Yongho: c
[12:16:58] Josephine Delvalle: Kika, pls
[12:18:07] Kika Yongho: One struggle that I often have with photography is the quality of the image, the details, the sharpness and definition. I have increased the snapshot width to 4200px but sometimes photos come out better sometimes worse… Any hint?
[12:18:10] Kika Yongho: done
[12:18:47] Josephine Delvalle: TY, Kika, who is giving us a ‘S’?
[12:19:10] Josephine Delvalle: or a ‘H’ for hint
[12:19:19] DaneAlbion Resident: q
[12:19:43] mihailsk Resident: ‘H’
[12:19:51] Josephine Delvalle: 🙂
[12:19:57] Josephine Delvalle: Mihalsk, pls
[12:21:32] mihailsk Resident: I m not sure if that could work for all, but I use to have the maximum widhtxHeight. And I always see the photo I save, making zoom. That takes more time but it works for me. Done
[12:22:01] Josephine Delvalle: Thank you, Mihailsk
[12:22:10] Josephine Delvalle: Dane, your question is?
[12:22:55] DaneAlbion Resident: i was just looking for a bit more explanation of ‘worse’ might help to see a solution
[12:23:00] DaneAlbion Resident: done
[12:23:55] Josephine Delvalle: ok, Kika, would you describe a bit more the ‘worse’
[12:24:06] Kika Yongho: Yes
[12:25:14] Kika Yongho: I was referring still to a “sharpness” or “image definition”. I found it easier to produce better quality image i.e. with Black Dragon rather than Firestorm, at same resolution
[12:25:20] Kika Yongho: Does this help, Dane?
[12:25:36] Josephine Delvalle: Dane?
[12:25:36] DaneAlbion Resident: yes, thank you
[12:26:06] Josephine Delvalle: Dane do you have now a hint?
[12:27:13] DaneAlbion Resident: not really, i think that might be a limitation of FS, there was an Alpha version tested a while ago that will perhaps offer some improvement although it wasn’t without issues
[12:27:21] DaneAlbion Resident: done
[12:27:31] Josephine Delvalle: nods
[12:27:58] Josephine Delvalle: What technical problem we have also?
[12:28:26] DaneAlbion Resident: c
[12:28:32] Josephine Delvalle: Dane, pls
[12:29:59] DaneAlbion Resident: moving the camera around easily in FS, i always spend far too long trying to get it exactly where i want it. Am i missing something obvious or is it just the same for everyone ‘bit left…bit left…bit lef..CRAP…bit right….’?
[12:30:16] Kika Yongho: 😀
[12:30:17] Josephine Delvalle: laughhhhhhh
[12:30:44] Josephine Delvalle: anyone a bit ‘solution’ or a bit ‘hint’?
[12:30:51] Kika Yongho: q
[12:31:03] Josephine Delvalle: Kika pls
[12:31:14] Kika Yongho: I have a question about the way Dane uses to move the camera, if is the camera controls window or manually. Done
[12:31:25] Josephine Delvalle: dane?
[12:31:54] DaneAlbion Resident: the camera controls thingy with the two 4-way pointer icons
[12:32:31] Kika Yongho: Thank you 🙂
[12:33:05] Josephine Delvalle: Anyone knowing/usimg an other thingy???
[12:33:05] DaneAlbion Resident: i have tried manual as well but find that even harder
[12:33:39] Kika Yongho: /me nods
[12:33:51] Kika Yongho: H
[12:33:54] Igi (Igielka Resident): What viewer you use ?
[12:33:58] Moonsoul Kiyori: I use my mouse
[12:34:03] DaneAlbion Resident: Firestorm
[12:34:10] Igi (Igielka Resident): but what viewer for SL ?
[12:34:29] Igi (Igielka Resident): ohhh…than what problem with cam ?
[12:34:57] Kika Yongho: Dane did you try to change the params? To have smaller steps?
[12:35:17] Igi (Igielka Resident): Good questions
[12:35:27] DaneAlbion Resident: the problem with the cam is that i find the firestorm tools difficult to get a precise movement on Igi
[12:35:41] DaneAlbion Resident: parameters?….err where might they be?
[12:35:44] Kika Yongho: LOL
[12:35:48] Igi (Igielka Resident): ohh..did you tryed cam tools ?
[12:35:54] Kika Yongho: Yes there 😀
[12:35:54] DaneAlbion Resident: yes
[12:36:30] DaneAlbion Resident: thats a seperate icon?
[12:36:37] Igi (Igielka Resident): And it not helped ?
[12:37:41] Kika Yongho: Menu World > Photo and Video > Cameratools
[12:37:51] Igi (Igielka Resident): in tools is more smotth
[12:37:54] DaneAlbion Resident: oh no, i hadn’t tried those for the camera..i’ll play around with that see if it helps. thanks
[12:38:11] Igi (Igielka Resident): Exactly, bravo Kika
[12:38:22] Igi (Igielka Resident): Q
[12:38:33] Moonsoul Kiyori: also mouse +ctrl +alt
[12:38:46] Kika Yongho: Aww
[12:38:53] Kika Yongho: And ..Yes Moon!
[12:38:57] DaneAlbion Resident: yes i have tried the mouse but i find it moves too much some times
[12:39:31] DaneAlbion Resident: for example the other day i was making a picture that was a copy of a famous art work so needed to get the positions precise and found that really hard
[12:40:06] Igi (Igielka Resident): hahaa..ofc that is never easy try repeat somthing
[12:40:06] Kika Yongho: /me nods
[12:40:35] Josephine Delvalle: any other hint or help for dane?
[12:40:46] Kika Yongho: H
[12:40:53] Josephine Delvalle: Kika, pls
[12:41:31] Kika Yongho: Last one.. I use to save camera position every now and then and work from there for the small changes so it is easy then to either re-save , either discard and go back to the previous saved position 🙂 Done
[12:41:56] Josephine Delvalle: seems a good hint, TY Kika
[12:42:04] DaneAlbion Resident: /me nods ‘a good idea. Thank you all 🙂 ‘
[12:53:20] Josephine Delvalle: Do we have an other TECHNICAL problem?
[12:54:12] Josephine Delvalle: If not … smiles … happy people …. we lose for today.
[12:54:47] Josephine Delvalle: Thank you for your questions and thank you for all the hints.
[12:54:50] Josephine Delvalle: 🙂
[12:55:10] Kika Yongho: Thank you Josephine for coming back from crashes 😀
