[ The following Episode #15 will be on:
Sat, the 16th of Apr H.11.00 AM SLT! ]
[11:04] Duraya: Hello everyone, welcome to our biweekly photo café, great you could join us!
[11:04] Duraya: There is a lot going on and of course it’s time for news again.
[11:05] Duraya: And news-time is Kika time! Ready Kika?
[11:05] Kika Yongho: Hello Photographer friends!
[11:05] Kika Yongho: While you’ll finish to fill in the XLS with your proposed dates and locations (just a friendly reminder: some of you are late!!! LOL) in the file that is online on google docs:
https://tinyurl.com/PhotoCafeWorkshops I have a new announcement for you!
[11:06] Kika Yongho: Starting this month of April, we will have a new special recurrent Expo, called “In The Spot”! It will be a quarterly display of one single seasonal photo, and we will be starting with Spring!
[11:07] Kika Yongho: The first photographer who has been volunteered to display his art is JiggyPoof and you can admire his Spring photo in the golden frame on the tree to the left looking back at the entrance. In the spot light!
[11:09] Kika Yongho: How does this recurrent expo works? We will display every 3 months a photo representing the current ongoing season, according to the current expo schedule:
Spring = April->June
Summer = July->September
Autumn = October->December
Winter = January->March
We will request (or you can volunteer!) a month before for the next season’s photo, that will be displayed for 3 months’ time on the sim.
[11:10] Kika Yongho: You can also (and you are very encouraged to do so!) post it in Photo Cafe’ Flickr group:
that has been created to display Photo Cafe’ related photos: taken here or related to our contests/seasonal expo. You can post the photo as well in as many groups you like and maybe use [Photo Cafe’] in title or description, to facilitate the Administrators in the approval process.
[11:12] Duraya: Thank you Kika 🙂
[11:14] Duraya: First I have to admit I have not yet suggested a date for the workshop I offer.
[11:15] Duraya: I was wondering how tightly we should pack the calender with all these dates
[11:15] Kika Yongho: c
[11:15] Duraya: yes Kika
[11:16] Kika Yongho: I think dates can be re-arranged. Best to start proposing one and then adjusting 🙂
[11:16] Kika Yongho: done
[11:16] Duraya: okay
[11:17] Duraya: Now, our new challenge!
[11:17] Duraya: We decided it would be ‘Remake of famous artwork using your own personal style’.
[11:18] Duraya: I searched the Internet for examples and was surprised by the variety of remakes I found.
[11:18] Duraya: Really amazing! From attempts of doing an almost 1:1 replica to transforming an artwork into mocking everything could be found.
[11:18] Loony Carabosse – Moretto (louna.perl): Check Ambre Singh’s pics 🙂
[11:18] Duraya: you can certainly find inspiration there
[11:19] Duraya: Our idea was to use one’s personal style to redo the artwork we will choose.
[11:20] Duraya: Soooo – we will have to decide together which of the three will be our ‚one for all‘!
[11:20] Duraya: Will it be Spitzweg’s ‚bookworm‘ whose characters almost look like caricatures of themselves?
[11:21] Duraya: Will it be Munch’s deeply emotional ‚colors of the soul‘ or will it be Rodin’s ‚the thinker‘?
[11:21] Duraya: You can take a bit of time to consider and then please just write the number you chose in open.
[11:26] Elfi Siemens: drumroll
[11:26] Duraya: Rodin, the thinker wins
[11:27] Jaminda Moon (jaminda): q
[11:27] Duraya: yes – Kika shared a secret – she has the pose and she is willing to share if someone needs it
[11:27] Duraya: and Jaminda has a question
[11:27] Jaminda Moon (jaminda): This is our version of the classic not a replica?
[11:28] Duraya: it’s your interpretation in your own style
[11:28] Loony Carabosse – Moretto (louna.perl): Q
[11:28] Duraya: Loony please
[11:28] Loony Carabosse – Moretto (louna.perl): If Kika has the pose, wouldn’t it be fun if we all use the same pose?
[11:29] Kika Yongho: I sent to all
[11:29] Duraya: what do you all think about that suggestion?
[11:29] Moki Yuitza: c
[11:30] Duraya: yes Moki please share
[11:30] Moki Yuitza: to answer Loony’s question
[11:31] Moki Yuitza: we could use the same pose or maybe just similar, but it’s the same in my opinion… if we should make our own replica of the masterpiece, it should be intended to repeat the meaning and the feeling of that
[11:32] Moki Yuitza: it could be the same if we choose a painting, if we would like to communicate the same feeling of the original.
[11:32] Moki Yuitza: done
[11:32] Elfi Siemens: c
[11:32] Duraya: yes Elfi please
[11:34] Jaminda Moon (jaminda): c
[11:35] Elfi Siemens: i think it’s enough that we have the same piece of art for everyone – maybe everyone even using the same pose is a step too far
[11:35] Kika Yongho: c
[11:35] Duraya: Jaminda is next
[11:36] Michiel Bechir: c
[11:36] Jaminda Moon (jaminda): I just wanted to comment on everyone doing the same pose I would find that a bit inhibiting to be honest I had an idea that did not involve a pose at all although would have to see if it works
[11:36] Duraya: thank you Jaminda
[11:36] Duraya: and Kika please
[11:37] Kika Yongho: I just wanted to point out that the pose is a freebie and also free to be used or not I believe. But the topic was “reinterpreting a classical artwork” just to put the focus back to the main theme 🙂 Done
[11:37] Duraya: thanks, Michiel, your turn
[11:38] Michiel Bechir: I missed part of the conversation on this subject, but the 3 pictures show to me the inner human thoughts in a very strong way
[11:39] Michiel Bechir: i am curious i am able to show it with the pose only, or with a background
[11:39] Michiel Bechir: done
[11:39] Duraya: that is true Michiel – for good or bad we are always thinking 😉
[11:39] Michiel Bechir: c
[11:40] Duraya: okay – so the pose is an option
[11:40] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): c
[11:40] Duraya: your comment onceagin
[11:41] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): if the pose is an option, what sense does it make then to refer to the original work?
[11:41] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): I mean I can do anything, just because I think of something
[11:41] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): done
[11:42] Duraya: thank you onceagain
[11:43] Kika Yongho: q
[11:43] Duraya: I think the way how someone interprets this artwork is up to them – I think it should be recognizable though
[11:43] Duraya: yes Kika
[11:43] Kika Yongho: I am a bit lost in the comments 🙂 The original theme given was.. ? “Reinterpreting the classical artwork”? thank you :))
[11:44] Duraya: soooo
[11:45] Duraya: reinterpreting ‘the thinker’!
[11:45] Duraya: If we keep the schedule, we would like to get your images on 14th for the 16th.
[11:45] Duraya: BUT – the 16th will be Easter-Saturday – will that be a problem?
[11:46] Duraya: we want as many reinterpretations as possible
[11:48] Duraya: So it will be the 14th for the images!
[11:48] Duraya: Send to me or Kapaan either full perm or modify and copy please.
[11:48] Duraya: using your own personal style ….
[11:49] ϻσiᴦα ϻσᴦiyαmα (moiramark): q
[11:49] Duraya: In the past, artists were usually expected to create art in whatever predominant fashion was popular at the time. Now, artists have much more freedom to work as they choose.
[11:49] Duraya: Moira you have a question, please send
[11:50] ϻσiᴦα ϻσᴦiyαmα (moiramark): thanks, I am the first time in the circle so maybe a stupid question, which resolution? Max possible in Sl?
[11:50] ϻσiᴦα ϻσᴦiyαmα (moiramark): done
[11:50] Duraya: we never discussed that – you have to keep within the sl limits anyway and it is your choice
[11:51] Duraya: I thought it would be nice to talk a bit about personal style.
[11:51] Duraya: we won’t get too far since time is running again – but it might give you some ideas
[11:52] Luna Suki: c
[11:52] Duraya: What is personal style based on in your opinion?
[11:52] Duraya: Luna please type your comment
[11:53] Loony Carabosse – Moretto (louna.perl): C
[11:54] Luna Suki: Personal style, in my opinion is evolving as I grow in my artistry. Much is growth in terms of knowledge, trial error, learning from others. My own … “work” is often scenic, and I’m beginning to dabble in Artistic. The latter (for me) requires much thought, preparation and a coherent theme. One slightly way-down sub thing of this (for example) with scenic, is to consider the available things such as what some may call “windlights” EPP. ——–and personal style certainly exceeds what I’ve written above. I’ve seen some of you (plural) works here, and I’m impressed, and find each person’s personal style something to reflect on and learn.
[11:55] Luna Suki: (clarify, many of your works here are lovely)
[11:55] Luna Suki:
[11:55] Duraya: thanks 🙂
[11:55] Duraya: Loony you are next
[11:56] Loony Carabosse – Moretto (louna.perl): Personal style is for me a kind of grail… I experience and still… I’m not sure someone seeing my pics can identify me… And I think it’s a real quest… But how to get a personal style without being limited in my search for effects, zooms, colors, etc? I think it’s hard and great at the same time to “search that”
[11:56] Elfi Siemens: c
[11:56] Duraya: thank you
[11:57] Duraya: and one c for Elfi
[11:57] Elfi Siemens: i think “personal style” is something that develops
[11:57] Elfi Siemens: and its a mixture of own personal preferences on how to compose and/or edit a picture and inspirations that come from other artists, be it classic artists or recent
[11:57] Michiel Bechir: c
[11:58] Elfi Siemens: i’m never sure if i do have a personal style, but i do think others do recognize my work sometimes 😉
[11:59] Elfi Siemens: done
[11:59] Duraya: thank you Elfi
[11:59] Duraya: Michiel you have a comment
[11:59] Michiel Bechir: I agree with Elfi, The personal style is something that has development. It is a kind of signature which you develop by trial and error.
[11:59] Michiel Bechir: done
[11:59] Kika Yongho: c
[12:00] Duraya: Kika, your turn 🙂
[12:01] Kika Yongho: The quest for “personal style” has been a bug for me since a while until I decided it won’t bother me anymore to have photo that can be recognizable and “marked” by an own style because I agree that style develops with the person. Is like something in your DNA that comes out in you as you grow up. Done
[12:01] DaneAlbion: c
[12:01] Duraya: thank you Kika
[12:02] Duraya: Dane your comment please
[12:02] DaneAlbion: idea for a challenge (that might not be possible within the confines of SL) can we identify the pics
[12:02] DaneAlbion: done
[12:03] Duraya: 🙂
[12:03] Loony Carabosse – Moretto (louna.perl): C
[12:03] Duraya: honestly I am sure we would be able to identify those we know a bit better
[12:04] Duraya: I agree style is not easily grasped – it’s something ‘shining through’
[12:04] Elfi Siemens: you can actually integrate that in any challenge
[12:04] DaneAlbion: quite possibly but it might be interesting to hear what identifies us, ‘Dane took that one…its blurred and badly formatted’
[12:04] Moki Yuitza: c
[12:04] Duraya: and yes – it develops with us growing as personalities as well as knowing how to handle methods, technique and so on
[12:05] Luna Suki: c
[12:05] Duraya: Loony you are next
[12:06] Loony Carabosse – Moretto (louna.perl): I can’t help usually cheering and fearing for some photographers who go out of their comfort zone and try something else… Comfort is sometimes boring
[12:07] Loony Carabosse – Moretto (louna.perl): Done
[12:07] Duraya: absolutely agreed!
[12:07] Duraya: Moki please
[12:07] Moki Yuitza: ty Duraya: it would be fun to show our photos of the challenge, without saying the author… and see if they are “recognizable” 😉
[12:08] Moki Yuitza: done °͜°
[12:08] Duraya: great idea Moki – we can do that with the thinkers
[12:08] Kika Yongho: Another challenge! Guess the author!
[12:09] Duraya: Luna – please – last comment unfortunately 🙁
[12:09] Luna Suki: in short, my style should grow and not be “static”. I should keep learning, else I run the risk of being stagnant in development of artistry of any form.
[12:10] Duraya: thank you all for the great discussion
[12:10] Kika Yongho: Yes really interesting today too, Thank you both Duraya and Kapaan
[12:11] Duraya: see you all in a fortnight (16th April) with your thinkers!
