[2022/03/19 11:19:18] Kika Yongho: So after Easter and location.. THINK and think MOAR! :)))

[2022/03/19 11:19:42] Duraya Resident: thank you Kika!
[2022/03/19 11:20:00] Duraya Resident: And thanks for finding this place – it’s awesome
[2022/03/19 11:20:16] Duraya Resident: There were a lot of questions around those workshops last time so we couldn’t finish our‚ expressing emotions in photography‘.
[2022/03/19 11:20:29] Duraya Resident: We did get as far as using expression HUDs and tataaa –immediately after the cafe a first workshop offered by Andrew about using animations was on the list!
[2022/03/19 11:21:02] Duraya Resident: I am glad there are so many technically skilled photographers here to pass on their tips and tricks.
[2022/03/19 11:21:18] Duraya Resident: Today I will just continue with the more basic aspects, maybe initiating even more workshops!
[2022/03/19 11:21:38] Duraya Resident: Facial expression is only one means to transport emotions
[2022/03/19 11:21:56] Duraya Resident: we know that body language makes up the larger part of human communication
[2022/03/19 11:22:13] Duraya Resident: lift your head and straighten your shoulders and you will feel and look self-confident
[2022/03/19 11:22:32] Duraya Resident: bow your head a bit and sit relaxed and you will look thoughtful, maybe mysterious, not easily transparent
[2022/03/19 11:22:50] Duraya Resident: let your head and shoulders drop and you will be close to depression
[2022/03/19 11:23:00] Duraya Resident: you can try if you want
[2022/03/19 11:23:08] Duraya Resident: not the depression please!
[2022/03/19 11:23:25] Duraya Resident: Inworld and on Marketplace we find an abundance of poses to enhance depicting emotions and devices for fine-tuning those.
[2022/03/19 11:23:47] Duraya Resident: Expression comes in many shapes and forms.
[2022/03/19 11:24:03] Duraya Resident: In photography, it is mainly through subject selection, composition, and post-processing.
[2022/03/19 11:24:30] Duraya Resident: Humans, nature, light, darkness, shadows, cities, food, lifestyle, age, abstract, shapes, juxtaposition, streets, interactions, animals, and all the others you can think of may be used as amplifiers of emotions in photography.
[2022/03/19 11:25:25] Duraya Resident: I am mentioning light just for the sake of completeness because that’s established – low key, dark tones for mystery, fear, the unknown, high key, light tones for comfort, happiness, well-being.
[2022/03/19 11:25:49] Duraya Resident: And everything in between depending on your style and personal taste
[2022/03/19 11:26:13] Duraya Resident: Windlights provide an abundance of options, using projectors add too.
[2022/03/19 11:26:54] Duraya Resident: About perspectives – remember these are hints not rules
[2022/03/19 11:27:15] Duraya Resident: shooting from below may show power, strength and dominance
[2022/03/19 11:27:32] Duraya Resident: head-on can be confrontation
[2022/03/19 11:27:50] Duraya Resident: shooting from far away may imply you are a casual bystander
[2022/03/19 11:28:58] Duraya Resident: see for yourself what feeling you get from those shots
[2022/03/19 11:31:35] Duraya Resident: examples for close and distant – I liked how the bee felt less dangerous to me from a distance
[2022/03/19 11:32:51] Duraya Resident: okay – more thoughts and hints:
[2022/03/19 11:33:03] Duraya Resident: use signs, backgrounds, anything around the image that helps to understand it better, a series can build up a context by and by
[2022/03/19 11:33:25] Duraya Resident: DOF will subtract context and focus attention to the subject, we talked about that before.
[2022/03/19 11:34:07] Duraya Resident: providing a lot of context will make us explore the interactions of the subject with the environment
[2022/03/19 11:34:40] Duraya Resident: every choice we make help or prohibit reading the emotions involved
[2022/03/19 11:35:02] Duraya Resident: blurring everything might invite the viewer to guess, invent their own stories
[2022/03/19 11:37:09] Duraya Resident: so you see the same people with different backgrounds – it’s obvious the background makes you feel different about the shots
[2022/03/19 11:38:14] Duraya Resident: I am aware you know that all and use these ideas in your art
[2022/03/19 11:38:30] Frank Atisso: c
[2022/03/19 11:38:39] Duraya Resident: for me It’s interesting to make it salient and be able to plan better
[2022/03/19 11:40:20] Duraya Resident: same here – the props and signs inform and make the shots understandable
[2022/03/19 11:40:30] Duraya Resident: look at the one with the covid sign
[2022/03/19 11:40:55] Duraya Resident: if it wouldn’t be there you could as well think some dark figures were about to rob a bank
[2022/03/19 11:41:42] Duraya Resident: Frank you have a comment?
[2022/03/19 11:42:00] Frank Atisso: There are different types of blurs as well which communicate differently with a viewer … one is of course the standard blur where things are smudgy/out of focus … another is the motion blur … where a thing is stretched only in a single direction.
[2022/03/19 11:42:56] Frank Atisso: The motion blur is hard to achieve inworld and needs to be done using an external software…. the other can be done inworld of course 🙂
[2022/03/19 11:42:59] Frank Atisso: done
[2022/03/19 11:43:08] Kika Yongho: c
[2022/03/19 11:43:25] Duraya Resident: thank you Frank
[2022/03/19 11:43:31] Duraya Resident: Kika your turn
[2022/03/19 11:43:50] Kika Yongho: Agreed with Frank but also suggesting for those who can (just Windows unfortunately) to try out also Black Dragon features. Done
[2022/03/19 11:44:08] Duraya Resident: thank you Kika
[2022/03/19 11:45:27] Andrew (AndrewHarlan55 Resident): c
[2022/03/19 11:45:47] Duraya Resident: So Frank hinted about post-processing already and Kika informed about Black Dragon
[2022/03/19 11:45:57] Duraya Resident: yes Andrew
[2022/03/19 11:46:37] Andrew (AndrewHarlan55 Resident): I was just going to comment on how the juxtaposition of the expected emotion/posture in the grim reaper picture plays such a role in how you read it.
[2022/03/19 11:46:39] Andrew (AndrewHarlan55 Resident): done
[2022/03/19 11:46:58] Duraya Resident: thank you
[2022/03/19 11:47:26] Duraya Resident: I think post-processing requires an own discussion.
[2022/03/19 11:47:50] Duraya Resident: Together with all the above means it defines ‚the style of the artist a lot I believe and we keep that in mind for a future cafe and one or two workshops ;-).
[2022/03/19 11:49:23] Michiel Bechir: c
[2022/03/19 11:49:53] Duraya Resident: yes Michiel, your comment please
[2022/03/19 11:50:13] Michiel Bechir: the 2nd photo does me remind of Edvard Munch
[2022/03/19 11:50:18] Michiel Bechir: The scream
[2022/03/19 11:50:20] Michiel Bechir: done
[2022/03/19 11:51:07] Duraya Resident: yes – if he would have used photography instead of painting it could have come out like this 😀
[2022/03/19 11:51:12] Elfi Siemens: c
[2022/03/19 11:51:26] Duraya Resident: Elfi is next
[2022/03/19 11:51:40] Elfi Siemens: spontaneous idea for a fun challenge:
[2022/03/19 11:52:16] Elfi Siemens: “interpret a classic painting using SL and your own style”
[2022/03/19 11:52:18] Elfi Siemens: or so.
[2022/03/19 11:52:34] Duraya Resident: I think this is a wonderful idea
[2022/03/19 11:52:35] Violette (Violette Rembrandt): cool idea
[2022/03/19 11:52:38] Kika Yongho: smiles enigmatically like a Mona Lisa
[2022/03/19 11:52:40] Elfi Siemens: maybe one painting for all or to each their own choice
[2022/03/19 11:52:42] Elfi Siemens: done
[2022/03/19 11:53:16] Duraya Resident: let’s vote – who is for one for all?
[2022/03/19 11:53:33] Elfi Siemens: me
[2022/03/19 11:53:38] Duraya Resident: raise voice instead of hands 😉
[2022/03/19 11:53:44] Elfi Siemens: could be really interesting
[2022/03/19 11:54:07] Kika Yongho: I second that
[2022/03/19 11:54:26] Duraya Resident: more?
[2022/03/19 11:55:25] Duraya Resident: okay – then who is for each their own choice?
[2022/03/19 11:55:31] Andrew (AndrewHarlan55 Resident): raises hand.
[2022/03/19 11:56:25] Kika Yongho: I take their 2 votes as a YES
[2022/03/19 11:56:38] Kika Yongho: UNLESS someone have another idea
[2022/03/19 11:56:45] Moki Yuitza: i cannot raise my hand, for me its the same… and i am not sure to be able to participate…. °͜°
[2022/03/19 11:57:05] Violette (Violette Rembrandt): it’s a good damn idea
[2022/03/19 11:57:17] Duraya Resident: awww Moki I love your work – I hope you can
[2022/03/19 11:57:40] Moki Yuitza: it is, indeed, but for me, mostly it depends from the subject
[2022/03/19 11:57:41] Elfi Siemens: how about just taking all those who didn’t vote as a yes too? 😉
[2022/03/19 11:57:57] Kika Yongho: But more ideas are always welcome
[2022/03/19 11:58:10] Kika Yongho: Constructive thinking 🙂
[2022/03/19 11:58:11] Duraya Resident: I do love the idea
[2022/03/19 11:58:30] Kika Yongho: “What about..?” > “No”
[2022/03/19 11:58:37] Duraya Resident: and we have a 2:1 result, the others didn’t vote
[2022/03/19 11:58:42] Kika Yongho: Aww
[2022/03/19 11:58:50] Kika Yongho: “No” > silence 😛
[2022/03/19 11:59:10] Andrew (AndrewHarlan55 Resident): And mine’s still a “Yes” – just for any piece of classic artwork.
[2022/03/19 11:59:12] Duraya Resident: it’s a challenge and a fun challenge – nothing to lose, a lot to gain 😀
[2022/03/19 11:59:35] Violette (Violette Rembrandt): it’s a yes for me 😉
[2022/03/19 11:59:35] Duraya Resident: we will find something nice
[2022/03/19 12:00:01] Moki Yuitza: i could vote, but if i’ll not participate, my vote has not value at all °͜°
[2022/03/19 12:00:09] Kika Yongho: Vote anyway
[2022/03/19 12:00:16] Moki Yuitza: ok, one for all
[2022/03/19 12:00:30] Duraya Resident: okay then it’s all
[2022/03/19 12:00:57] Duraya Resident: we will find some suggestions and present next time
[2022/03/19 12:01:24] Duraya Resident: and that will be on the 2nd of April if I am right
[2022/03/19 12:01:39] Kika Yongho: yes Duraya
[2022/03/19 12:02:07] Duraya Resident: great, see you all in a fortnight and thanks for joining in 🙂
