[2021/12/04 11:08:40] Duraya Resident: Hi everyone, glad you could join us all for the seventh episode of our bi-weekly photo café!
[2021/12/04 11:09:01] Duraya Resident: As announced we will have a workshop on projectors! Kapaan will show us how to build our own one.
[2021/12/04 11:13:13] Kapaan Resident: Thank you everyone for coming 🙂
[2021/12/04 11:13:49] Kapaan Resident: Today we are keeping to the topic of lights and shadow and by the end of the session you will know the basics of how to use light in SL
[2021/12/04 11:14:05] Kapaan Resident: This is a practical session so everyone will be put to work 😉
[2021/12/04 11:14:07] Kapaan Resident: BUT
[2021/12/04 11:14:20] Kapaan Resident: Don’t worry we are on hand to assist where needed
[2021/12/04 11:15:01] Kapaan Resident: Before we jump in can I ask everyone to set their environmental settings to Midnight please
[2021/12/04 11:15:49] Violette (Violette Rembrandt): done, do i have to take off my face light for better work ?
[2021/12/04 11:16:13] Kapaan Resident: No Violette 🙂 I just want you to see the light clearer when you create it 🙂
[2021/12/04 11:16:28] Kapaan Resident: If you feel its too much then please take it off for the moment
[2021/12/04 11:17:21] Kapaan Resident: Ok next thing is please can I ask you to choose Sun/Moon + Projectors in your graphics settings?
[2021/12/04 11:17:38] Kapaan Resident: When that is done we are ready to create some light
[2021/12/04 11:18:59] Kapaan Resident: I want you to go to the build menu and rez a prim please. Just use the block for this part and raise it up a bit please
[2021/12/04 11:21:34] Kapaan Resident: Ok the first thing we will learn is just the essential prim light
[2021/12/04 11:21:44] Kapaan Resident: To do this I want you to edit your prim
[2021/12/04 11:22:25] Kapaan Resident: Find the “Features” Tab and look for light –>
[2021/12/04 11:22:43] Kapaan Resident: When you choose the box you will see light 🙂
[2021/12/04 11:22:53] Kapaan Resident: Awesome! see lights pop up everywhere
[11:23] Kapaan: Now if you look below the box where you checked the “light” you can see some parameters where you can set light. We will not go into those today. But just take note where to find them
[11:24] Kapaan: Now lets have some fun
[11:24] Kapaan: Please change the colour of your light
[11:24] Kapaan: For that simply choose the colour in the box next to the “light” option
[11:25] Kapaan: I see lots of colour
[11:25] Kapaan: I really feel the xmas feeling with the greens and reds
[11:25] Kapaan: OK everyone ok with that?
[11:26] Kapaan: Before we go on, I want to point out that this method can be used to light up spaces and what I usually do is combine a few lights in different colours and then make the prims 100% transparent and phantom.
[11:27] Kapaan: If you are so inclined you can even attach this to yourself and make your own facelight 🙂
[11:28] Kapaan: Ok BUT normally you will most likely want to direct your light
[11:28] Kapaan: In order to direct your light, you need a projector
[11:28] Kapaan: My Lady is handing out some textures and please keep them safe as they are useful
[11:29] Kapaan: Can I ask that everyone goes and makes their light white again please?
[11:29] Kika Yongho ‘s inner Grinch grins
[11:30] Kapaan: OK 🙂 looks like everyone is done
[11:30] Kapaan: Now for projector magic
[11:30] Kapaan: You probably noticed a block with a cross in it right next to the colour block
[11:30] Kapaan: Please choose that and select one of the textures you received
[11:31] Kapaan: Please can I also ask that you raise your prim up away from the floor
[11:31] Kapaan: That way you can see the light projected
[11:31] Kapaan: wow you are all fantastic 🙂
[11:32] Kapaan: You can play with the textures provided to see effects they have
[11:33] Kapaan: You can also change colours
[11:33] Kapaan: and mix and match them 🙂
[11:34] Kapaan: And now you know the basics of building your own projector 🙂
[11:34] Kapaan: Any questions?
[11:36] Duraya: okay – if there are no questions … thank you Kapaan
[11:36] Kapaan: Thank you everyone
[11:37] Duraya: so as Elfie pointed out last time a projector emits light only into one direction
[11:38] Duraya: you can point the light on you and whatever you find interesting to have an effect on
[11:38] Duraya: even the chocolate cookies
[11:39] Duraya: Kika had a great batman texture last time
[11:39] Kika Yongho: Ah yes! Let me find LOL
[11:39] Duraya: and I even like to use leaves for effects
[11:40] Duraya: any texture that allows light to get through will be fine
[11:40] Kika Yongho: Yes but don’t do like me… use white and not transparent 😛
[11:40] Kika Yongho: (I went through that mistake before :P)
[11:41] Duraya smiles
[11:41] Duraya: so as Kapaan said you can use more than one projector at a time too
[11:41] Duraya: maybe try that?
[11:43] Duraya: so these are the shadows we can add to the shadows sl already shows with the right setting
[11:45] Duraya: if you now play with windlight too you have a lot of options for your light and shadow adventure 🙂
[11:46] Duraya: any questions now?
[11:46] Duraya: I’m not the expert but I can try 😉
[11:48] Duraya: so I would like to ask you to go back to Midday please
[11:48] Violette (violette.rembrandt): q
[11:48] Duraya: Violette
[11:49] Violette (violette.rembrandt): @Duraya, the colored projector seems to clash with applied textures, is there a way to fix that ?
[11:50] Duraya: hm – I will take that question to Kapaan and he will message you, will that be okay?
[11:50] Violette (violette.rembrandt): yeah sure no worries ^^
[11:50] Duraya: thank you
[11:53] Duraya: So whether BW or color, people, landscapes, small details or large builds – the theme is everywhere!
[11:54] Duraya: As announced last time getting to know each other by sharing art will go on!
[11:55] Duraya: We want to invite you to share another round of amazing shots 🙂
[11:55] Duraya: And of course it will be ‘light and shadow‘ 🙂
[11:55] Duraya: what else
[11:55] Duraya: So feel free to choose any theme you like, just make sure to turn your attention especially to light and shadow.
[11:56] Duraya: Hopefully today’s workshop can support you there.
[11:56] Duraya: We would like to receive the textures before Thursday,16th of December if you can make it. Please make sure not to set them to: no copy/no modify, anything else works.
[11:57] Duraya: I’m sure Kika will send out a reminder and invitation to partake in the little contest for all who couldn’t be present today.
[11:58] Kika Yongho: I will do ofc !!!
[11:58] Duraya: The following Episode #8 will be on Saturday, the 18th of December! Then the end of the year will be close and many will be on vacations. This is usually a rather quiet time in sl. It might be different though due to the Covid disaster :(.
[11:58] Kika Yongho: If you didn’t, join the News board 🙂
[11:59] Duraya: Can we take a minute please to find a good date to continue with #9 in 2022 together?
[12:00] Duraya: okay – then it will be the 15th January 2022.
[12:01] Duraya: I am so looking forward to your pictures, it was so great to see the industrial ones.
[12:02] Violette (violette.rembrandt): so impatient to see everyone’s photos !
[12:02] DaneAlbion: yes, it will be a good opportunity to try out these projectors
[12:04] Duraya: thank you so much for this great cafe
[12:04] Duraya: see you in a fortnight hopefully 🙂
