[ The following Episode #5 will be on:
Sat, the 6th of Nov H.11.00 AM SLT! ]
[2021/10/23 11:07] Duraya Resident: Everyone seated comfortably?
[2021/10/23 11:07] Duraya Resident: then let’s start
[2021/10/23 11:08] Duraya Resident: Discussing our events Kika came up with an idea for sharing interesting LMs for photographers. We are aware SL provides support with that
[2021/10/23 11:08] Duraya Resident: Kika will now explain you what we have in mind.
[2021/10/23 11:09] Kika Yongho: While talking to a fellow photographer (sitting amongst us… ^^) about good spots for photos, confronting experiences about looking for new spots in Second Life Destinations rather than other blogs / websites, we thought: “Why not have a notecard list of LMs provided and suggested by our Chat members?”.
[2021/10/23 11:09] Kika Yongho: So the idea is very simple: any of you can suggest a special place you have where you like to take your photos, and we will be adding all the landmarks provided in a notecard that will be updated and checked (for broken links mainly) on a monthly basis. The list will be available for all to grab and use here on the land!
[2021/10/23 11:10] Kika Yongho: The list will contain the basic info about the place:
Name:
Location:
Rating:
Rez:
Notes:
Flickr:
Tags:
[2021/10/23 11:11] Kika Yongho: For example, I paste here one of the already listed places, with all the fields filled up correctly:
Name: Grauland
Location: Liberia Isle (92,221,26)
Rating: Adult
Rez: Free (30 minutes)
Notes: The sim decor changes every once in a while

You can provide just the LM and the info that you know: we will find out the rest!
[2021/10/23 11:11] Kika Yongho: But how can you send your LMs to us? This is very simple! Behind me, at the Info point, there is a red mailbox where you can drop a notecard.
[2021/10/23 11:12] Kika Yongho: You can insert the LM in the notecard, together with your info / message and (holding CTRL key) drag&drop it onto our mailbox!
Clicking the mailbox will give you the option to get a sample notecard with the said fields for the LM submission ready for you!
[2021/10/23 11:12] Kika Yongho: As soon as ready, the notecard will be available to be checked out here at the Info point (that I recommend you to explore sometimes.. it’s full of surprises and goodies)! Thank you, we hope you’ll like the idea. Drop LMs! And I am done! 🙂
[2021/10/23 11:13] Duraya Resident: Thank you Kika – thanks for the effort and for explaining 🙂
[11:17] Duraya: We will start with today’s main agenda
[11:17] Duraya: Please remember to type c for comment, q for question and r if you want to retrieve your contribution. Please wait for me to call your name when it is your turn and say ‘done‘ when you are finished – it helps a lot – thank you.
[11:17] Duraya: Oooookay – working with themes – creative constraint vs. Imaginative challenge.
[11:18] Duraya: Sometimes you prepare for a themed exhibition, sometimes you stumble over a theme you want to express in your work.
[11:18] Duraya: What is your experience there? If you work with a theme – what is your approach? What do you experience as restriction and on the other hand – does that kind of creative approach even add something to your work?
[11:19] Kika Yongho: c
[11:19] Duraya: yes please Kika
[11:20] Kika Yongho: I don’t have much experience with themed Expo so a theme is something that I often give to myself when wanting to express a specific concept/story. I try and envision the theme and I don’t find it hard to express it in photos (if not the technical difficulties) because it is in my mind already :). Done
[11:20] Michiel Bechir: c
[11:20] Duraya: Michiel now
[11:21] Michiel Bechir: I organize sometimes with a theme, and invite artists who can contribute to it
[11:21] Michiel Bechir: I give them a lot of freedom to work within it
[11:21] Michiel Bechir: done
[11:22] Duraya: thank you Michiel
[11:22] Jaminda Moon (jaminda): c
[11:22] Duraya: do you get feedback on the themes?
[11:22] Elfi Siemens: c
[11:22] Michiel Bechir: yes, most in positive ways Duraya
[11:22] Duraya nods
[11:23] Michiel Bechir: from audience and participants
[11:23] Michiel Bechir: done
[11:23] Duraya: Jaminda now please
[11:23] Jaminda Moon (jaminda): Having a theme is often a challenge especially if you want to do a specific thing….sometimes I like that challenge sometimes not. I tend to work more with the flow and if am wandering around a sim then I take a photo randomly as it were…done
[11:23] Duraya: thank you
[11:23] Duraya: Elfi, you are next
[11:24] Chemsia: c
[11:25] Elfi Siemens: i usually work the other way around… i see something, an outfit, accessory or location and it gives me an idea, so most pics i do come right out of the stomach, so to say
[11:25] Melly Mel Mel (melodiekraai): c
[11:25] Elfi Siemens: and when they’re done, i’m like… oh look, it has a theme, lol
[11:25] Elfi Siemens: done
[11:25] Prins (skylog): c
[11:26] Duraya: next on the list is : Chemsia!
[11:26] Chemsia: Usually, when working with a theme, I try to start with some key aspect I want in the picture frame.. dress accordingly.. and try figuring some angle and pose where it make sense as a whole.. keeping in mind I can adjust few aspects as I go along.. rezing something else, messing with the windlights…. the FOV and such.. adding some light ray or floating particles/fog if needed.. in short .. having key element helps for the whole theme to take shape.. but you need to be open and flexible to improvise along the way!
[11:26] Chemsia: Done
[11:27] Duraya: thank you Chemsia
[11:27] Duraya: and you are next Melly Mel Mel
[11:28] Melly Mel Mel (melodiekraai): i usually am inspired on the fly, and as such very rarely am given to theme work…
[11:28] Melly Mel Mel (melodiekraai): but i have an ongoing theme of pinup girl looks that i constantly work on
[11:28] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): c
[11:29] Melly Mel Mel (melodiekraai): so i find that if i keep bigger projects running in the background, it’s easier for me to deal with them
[11:29] Melly Mel Mel (melodiekraai): done
[11:29] Duraya: thank you
[11:30] Duraya: Prins – you are next on the list
[11:30] Prins (skylog): Love the comment above – I am impressed over the wisdom and knowledge. For me a theme is fun – we can all take a good photo. For me as an IT-man, the challenge comes when there is a goal, a staple chase where the goal is clear. As Dearest Jaminda said
[11:32] Prins (skylog): done
[11:32] Duraya: onceagain now please
[11:33] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): I dislike working on a project for which the idea comes from outside, from others, I barely do some commissioned works.. only if the price is worth the fatigue or is for charity but during my photographic life I realized that it is really important to be able to take any type of shot, from still life to landscape through portrait…
[11:33] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): in rl and sl, is the same
[11:34] Michiel Bechir: c
[11:34] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): I’m used to thinking about taking pictures in series, and the triggering reason for a project depends on the moment, what I read, what I feel during the week or the month, if I’m happy or not and so on. Most of the time I try to find a poetic meaning in everyday life and that’s “true” also for the photos I take on sl
[11:35] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): done
[11:35] Moki Yuitza: c
[11:36] Elfi Siemens: c
[11:37] Duraya: Michiel is next
[11:37] Michiel Bechir: i recognize what onceagain says about preferring to work on a theme chosen by myself as a photographer. I rarely join competitions, contests etc for that reason. Done
[11:37] Violette (violette.rembrandt): c
[11:37] Duraya: thank you Michiel
[11:38] Duraya: Moki, your turn 🙂
[11:38] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): c
[11:38] Moki Yuitza: as photographer i have worked just with my own themes, never with an imposed one…. but mostly i’m a builder, and as it i have worked in both situation,… in my experience, work with a specific theme to respect is something really hard for me, because i have to model the perception of the space that i want to realize accordingly to the theme, and often it is not easy
[11:38] Moki Yuitza: on the other side, i need to have boundaries to work with, in example the space (parcel/sim/gallery) where i have to build my vision
[11:39] Moki Yuitza: in photography, all i do is trying to find a nice shot among all my tests, and if i am lucky, from that one will start a new series
[11:39] Moki Yuitza: done
[11:39] Duraya: Elfi you are next please
[11:40] Elfi Siemens: i have a remark to what once said
[11:40] Elfi Siemens: about having to be able to do any kind of picture
[11:41] Elfi Siemens: that may apply if you want to be a professional photographer
[11:41] Elfi Siemens: but in photography as an art form there shouldn’t be any “you have to”
[11:41] Yvette (yvette.arabello): C
[11:42] Elfi Siemens: done
[11:42] Duraya: thank you
[11:42] Duraya: Violette it’s your turn
[11:42] Violette (violette.rembrandt): Working with an imposed theme is very fun and challenging but it’s hard for me to be restricted + it takes me much more time to organize my thoughts (and i already take a LOT of time when i take photo so errrrrr…. ‘^^), i’m more like Elfi or Melly : i see something that gives me a photo idea and go for it. Most of the time i go with a feeling to express or a message i want to convey. Well i clearly prefer to be free ^^
[11:42] Violette (violette.rembrandt): Done 🙂
[11:43] Duraya: once you are on
[11:44] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): it is however intriguing to get involved … it serves to understand one’s limits 🙂 so also trying to take a part of a contest could be funny
[11:44] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): for Elfi
[11:45] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): if you want to break the rules you have to know them.. and Michelangelo is one of the most important artists, even if he work on commission for the Pope 😉
[11:45] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): done
[11:45] Duraya: we have Yvette now
[11:45] Prins (skylog): c
[11:47] Yvette (yvette.arabello): For me its a challenge to have a pre-set idea , much harder to gather an idea or concept then just free style .
[11:48] Yvette (yvette.arabello): done thank you
[11:48] Duraya: Prins please
[11:48] Prins (skylog): Let me mention food instead of a photo a themed photo – we all know the dishes we dine, even we eat different things. If we see a photo, we can think that turkey in that surrounding, that is Christmas and the family joined. I will have a pig roasted. It is still inside the theme Christmas dinner. Done
[11:49] Duraya: I have a few additional thoughts or questions
[11:50] Duraya: Did anyone ever come up with a rewarding result you would not have obtained without that theme?
What caused that special extra creative spark?
Can it probably even be a way to leave beaten paths?
[11:50] Michiel Bechir: c
[11:50] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): c
[11:51] Moki Yuitza: c
[11:51] Duraya: Michiel
[11:51] Kika Yongho: c
[11:51] Michiel Bechir: I had this experience with vintage photos, the look of model, clothing turned out so well several times.
[11:51] Michiel Bechir: done
[11:51] Duraya: once?
[11:54] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): it happened to me with a contest in real life, I won and was exhibited in an art gallery.. but the theme, even if was imposed..was near to my feeling.. so the answer is yes.. half yes.. could be a way to try something different
[11:54] onceagain (manoji.yachvili): done
[11:54] Duraya: and Moki now
[11:54] Moki Yuitza: not sure if i can call it “rewarding result” because i always had to fit that theme in my mental schemes… but sometimes it happens that i started to think of something that i did not expect in the beginning
[11:55] Melly Mel Mel (melodiekraai): c
[11:55] Moki Yuitza: maybe so this is a yes to your first and third questions °͜°
[11:55] Moki Yuitza: done
[11:55] Duraya: 🙂
[11:55] Duraya: Kika please
[11:55] Kika Yongho: I sometimes participated in Flickr contests. Having a “constraint” that is just the theme helps me to embrace whatever revolves around that theme and often can show me exactly unbeaten paths. I have in mind a couple of shots I took for an Alpine themed contest where a dear friend helped me as “cow character” but the photo escalated quickly (literally!) and we ended up flying on balloons across the landscape 😀 It went unexpected and was lots of fun!
[11:55] Kika Yongho: done
[11:56] Duraya: Melly Mel Mel will you speak now?
[11:57] Melly Mel Mel (melodiekraai): i wanted to speak on what was said earlier by Moki….
[11:57] Melly Mel Mel (melodiekraai): and i ‘m not sure if ya’ll find this to be the case too…
[11:57] Melly Mel Mel (melodiekraai): i am always surprised to figure out which direction a photo takes when i ‘m in edit
[11:58] Melly Mel Mel (melodiekraai): each one speaks to me differently
[11:58] Melly Mel Mel (melodiekraai): done.
[11:59] Duraya: wow – really interesting contributions
[11:59] Duraya: So we heard a lot so far – time to see something? We would really love to get to know each other through our art.
[11:59] Duraya: Of course we could just ask everyone for an example of their pictures but wouldn’t it be more challenging to have a little local ‚fun-photo-contest‘? And to make it even more interesting a themed one?
[12:00] Duraya: and of course, just for those who feel like trying it – I understand the idea of working free and following the flow
[12:01] Duraya: Thus, we would all start from the same point and showing and discussing the outcome next time we can share our approach, similarities and differences, joy and frustration, the whole process containing the artificial spirit and the technical side as well.
[12:02] Duraya: What would be an interesting theme for you? Any suggestions what we should choose? Think of something you like or that you want to explore with your camera.
[12:02] Yvette (yvette.arabello): how about Industrial as a theme ?
[12:03] Violette (violette.rembrandt): what about “Super hero in every day life”
[12:04] Prins (skylog): that will be hard – since i probably take a rl photo
[12:04] Duraya: so it’s industrial vs superhero now
[12:04] Duraya: any other suggestions?
[12:08] Duraya: okay – you will get everything via notecard from Kika
[12:08] Duraya: will you please listen for a sec – there is an announcement from her
[12:09] Kika Yongho: I have 1.5 announcement(s)! 😀
